I’ve got some good news for people in the Humber area today. If your business is based in Humberside and you are thinking of creating your first website, upgrading a site, or launching an online marketing campaign, you could get one of two grants from the government to fund part of the process. And we can make it easy to fund and get a site from Sam Hollis Web Design.
You can get in touch to find out more about applying for these grants. Have a read of this blog to see how they work first though.
New companies getting online – ICT for Growth grant
This is a grant funded by the Humber Business Growth Hub and the EU for small, new businesses in the Humber area to get the tech they need to get going.
What is it for?
If your business has launched within the last 12 months, you can get an ICT for Growth grant to cover many things including:
- Your first website
- A domain name for one year
- First year hosting
- A basic ecommerce system
- Digital marketing including PPC, SEO and analytics.
These are just the web-related items that I cover. The full list can be found at the end of this article. Other related costs can be considered but must be discussed with the team at the Hub first.
How much can I get?
The grant is worth up to £1000 and can be used to cover up to 50% of the pre-VAT cost of a selection of items from the list, with you covering the other 50%+. That means the items you chose could be as little as half price to you.
The total cost of the items you choose to apply the grant to must be between £2000 and £2500 pounds. A larger grant is available for bigger expenditures, outlined below.
Who can apply?
You can apply if your business is in Hull, the East Riding of Yorkshire, North and North-East Lincolnshire. It must also be under 12 months old, with less than 250 employees and a turnover of less than £50 million. Some sectors, such as retail and certain local service providers, are excluded from the grant and there is some fine print about who can receive the funding, but this can be sorted out by the providers.
How can Sam Hollis Web Design help me?
We can offer all of the services mentioned above and more, as well as referring you to those who can land the grant for you. We’ll also lay out the quotes and other documents perfectly for the grant, providing the right information, making it an easy application process. We can even get in touch with the provider to make sure our provision works well with your application if you want.
If you want to spend some or all of the grant with us, we would be happy to help you to land the grant by putting you in touch with staff at the Humber Business Growth Hub who can fill out the forms and send off for the grant.
What we can provide for your grant.
For £2000, we can easily provide a good website, a domain and hosting for a year and a PPC and/or SEO campaign, leaving you enough spare for plenty of new ICT equipment for your new company from the list at the end of the article.

Established Humber-area SMEs selling to other businesses – ScaleUp Business Development Programme
As the title suggests, this is a whole programme, going beyond just grants. However, it does include larger grants to cover up to 40% of the cost of £2,500-£12,500 ICT projects for existing businesses. These projects can involve upgrading your existing site and web presence to enable better ecommerce and e-marketing among other things. However, the process of applying for this programme is a little more in-depth than for the previous grant, so it is better to talk to the Growth Hub direct.
If you’re interested, contact me and I can refer you to a Humber Business Growth Hub advisor and set up a project with you.
